So,
what’s it all about then?
Max Driver is an advanced-driving scheme created especially for young
drivers. It’s designed to lower crash rates and insurance premiums
for anyone who takes it.
How
much does it cost?
There are two ways to take Max Driver, both involve reading the Max
Driver: Drive Like A God book:
• The standard Max Driver costs £99 and typically takes
three months to prepare for test, say at two hours every fortnight
with an experienced IAM observer.
• Max Driver Fast Track is quicker. Candidates spend a full
day with one of the UK’s best advanced-driving trainers. You’ll
learn everything you need to pass the test during the day, be given
a demo drive by the trainer and spend plenty of the time at the wheel.
The trainer will advise you what you need to work on before taking
your test – typically 2-4 weeks later. Fast Track costs £199
and involves one trainer and two trainees.
Is
there an age limit?
Max Driver is designed for young drivers, but there’s nothing
stopping anyone taking part in the scheme.
Is it hard to pass?
It’s similar, in terms of difficulty, to your standard driving
test. You have to read the book and apply yourself, but any half-decent
driver who does that, should have no problems passing the test.
The observers, trainers and examiners are all really friendly and encouraging…
not like those frosty DSA types!
Where do I drive?
The observer/trainer will agree a mutually convenient location to meet
you – perhaps at your local Halford’s store. You will then
drive around that area. On a Fast track day, you will cover up to 175
miles between you.
Do I really get 25% off my insurance?
You certainly do, via Adrian Flux Insurance, our partners in the scheme.
Get your quote first, then tell them you’re a qualified Max Driver.
They’ll knock at least 25% off your premium. Many young drivers
will get (at least) their Max Driver fees back in insurance savings
in year one… and will then go on to save every year after.
How
long before my insurance renewal should I sign up to the scheme?
Why not do it straight away? Otherwise we suggest you allow three
months, especially if you're planning to take the standard Max Driver
scheme.
What
if I’ve just taken out new insurance?
You have a number of options:
If you know before renewing or starting a new policy that you will be
taking Max Driver, you can insure with Flux at the non-discounted rate
and receive a pro rata refund when you pass.
If
you have insurance elsewhere, on passing the test advise your insurer
you are a Max Driver. You should get some sort of discount. If the current
insurer does not give a discount, Flux guarantees to be 25% cheaper
than the current insurer.
It may even pay a few people who pass to look at the cost of cancelling
and moving to Flux mid-term – but you’d have to look at
the cancellation charges.

Can I speak to the insurance company about my
Max Driver quote?
Of course, call Adrian Flux regarding Max Driver on 0845 658582.
Do I take it in my own car?
Max Driver preparation with your local observer is done in your own
car, as are all tests.
Max Driver Fast Track training is done in the trainer’s car along
with another trainee. Why not get a mate to do it with you?
My
car’s modded, is that a problem?
As long as it’s road legal and running correctly, you shouldn’t
have a problem. You’ll need room for a full-sized adult in the
passenger seat, so very tight race seats may be a problem. Bring your
MOT and insurance documents on the day, along with your driver’s
licence.
NB: For specific modifying queries, take details and check with Max
Power.
Isn’t
it only for old duffers?
No way! You’ll be amazed when you see how cool and progressively
a great driver travels. It’ll save you money, make your car last
longer because you’ll have better mechanical sympathy and make
you 70% less likely to crash than average drivers. (Transport Research
Lab stats)
What
if I fail?
You can retake the test again for a fee of £35.
